A Day With Lorna Morgan

Woman On Top

Up Women (Woman On Top ) is one of those movies that not be good, one is repeated on cable.

Overwhelmed by what I call "morning insomnia", ie waking up very early, even on weekends and not being able to sleep, no matter what you did last night, I saw this movie again and remembered why I have bad effects, a rather poor script and regular performances, I like this movie.

The key is to load the film sensual. Penelope Cruz plays Isabella, a Brazilian chef who does wonders with food. Prepare dishes that provoke feelings of pleasure and pure delight accompanied by music Bossa Nova and gestures and movements quasi aphrodisiac English actress.

The film has a plot linked to human tragedies caused by voodoo gods, inthe what, Isabella travels San Francisco where he is discovered by a television productorde takes to do a program called Passion Food , whose name could not be better placed.

If you want to listen to good music and want to enjoy Brazilian music, I recommend watching the movie. If you like well-made films, the better to see something else.

The Cure - Just Like Heaven

The Cure is one of those bands that, in general, tends to be a meeting of people with different musical tastes. Whether you're more into the dark wave of albums like Pornography, Faith or Disintegration, you like the early post-punk albums like Three Imaginary Boys or Seventeen Seconds or if you are someone that you like the most catchy as " Friday I'm In Love "," Mint Car "or" Just Like Heaven ", The Cure seem to bring together different musical sensibilities.

This song from 1987 is one of those Popular tracks that accompany the collective unconscious of a generation. Interestingly, one of the songs that more time was spent among my favorites (2 decades).

Dear, The Cure - Just Like Heaven.

Grunge History: The Early (Part 1 of 3)

Grunge Grunge music is a name that brings together a group of native bands in Seattle that started playing in Rock garages and clubs in the mid 80's. Unlike Rock currents prevailing at the time (Hair Rock, Metal), music not based on virtuosity or guitar solos, but in a more primitive rescue Rock with Punk influences of 70's Hard Rock (with bands like Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath as a reference) and others such as The Who and Neil Young.

Seattle has the curiosity of being the birthplace of Jimi Hendrix, Queensryche conceptual Metal in the early 80's and be a place where bands like AC / DC always filled stadiums, even when the rock was removed from the charts.

All this speaks of a city with a strong appreciation for the Rock, which fosters a breeding ground that is catalyzed by a sentence of legendary producer Jack Endino (who recorded with Nirvana some songs for her album Bleach ) to explain the phenomenon of Seattle, one of the rainiest cities and more to North America: "when the weather is shit and not give you like going out, go down to the basement and start to get a lot of noise to get you off your frustration. "

The Early

The Melvins was one of the first bands to gain respect within the local scene. They began playing in 1983 and had a dirty and dense sound that would influence strongly Kurt Cobain who had even auditioned for the band, without success. In those years began to form other bands or Malfunkshun Green River.

In 1986 the independent label C / Z pulls out a compilation called Deep Six which included songs from all 6 bands most striking of the local scene at that moment: Malfunkshun, Green River, Melvins, U-Men , Soundgarden and Skin Yard (where he played the aforementioned Jack Endino).

Malfunkshun was a trio that mixed with Glam Metal, led by Andrew Wood Landrew who called himself "The Love Child" and autocatalogando his style of music like Rock Love. Andrew accompanied him on guitar his brother Kevin Wood and drummer Regan Haggar.

Green River, on the other hand cultivated a Garage Rock harder. The internal reference was another band from Seattle with Mark Arm on vocals, Stone Gossard and Steve Turner on guitars, Jeff Ament on bass and Alex Vincent on drums. In 1985 Turner was replaced by Bruce Fairweather and the band their first EP scarlet Come on Down and then record a second in 1987, Dry As A Bone, and his long-term Rehab Doll in 1988.

other bands were also cultivating different styles like Screaming Trees that mixed psychedelic rock with pop or Tad with his trademark heavy and dense that rescues influenced by Black Sabbath.

Back then everything was limited to local independent labels like Sub Pop , broadcast on local radio singles, many gigs in clubs and essentially underground movement. In 1988
begin to occur the first landmarks that lead to rearrange the local musical map and build the foundation for future exhibition of motion. That year, Green River is dissolved.

The story goes that Mark Arm not stand Jeff Ament who was obsessed with obtaining a contract with a major label for which exerted pressure on the band's musical direction. The result is that Mark Arm Steve Turner joins to form Mudhoney making the single "Touch Me I'm Sick " that same year became a local anthem, only to be parodied in the movie Singles by Matt Band Dilon as "Touch Me I'm Dick." The original version of Mudhoney with other singles released by the band on Sub Pop would be collected along with his first album in 1990, a compilation entitled Plus Early Singles Superfuzz Bigmuff .

Moreover Jeff Ament, Bruce Fairweather, Stone Gossard thirst join the recently disbanded Malfunkshun vocalist Andrew Wood. They give life to one of the key bands in the genealogy Seattle Music: Mother Love Bone characterized by a refined melodic sense Glam still bring charges, but has become more sophisticated.

The First Survey and the Road to Success

In 1989, Soundgarden Louder Than Love with is the first grunge band release an album under a major label and even get some rotation its video for "Hands All Over" , A & M. Nirvana recorded with a budget of $ 600 their debut album Bleach for Sub Pop released his Mother Love Bone Shine EP and become the great promise of Seattle getting a record deal. Some critics and journalists are beginning to look closely at what is brewing in Seattle.

Mother Love Bone works hard in the recording sessions for his album Apple , But once completed and before going on sale, Andrew Wood died of heroin overdose. The band achieved some popularity in the U.S. but lost his front-man. Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard decided to form a new band with guitarist Mike McCready, owner of a style influenced by Hendrix. For a brief period called themselves Lords of the Wasteland and tested with Shawn Smith (Satchel and vocalist Brad ). The equation seems to curdle and the musicians recorded some demos, sending the tape to several friends and acquaintances from around the country to record their voices on vocal tracks. Dozens of imitators arrive Andrew Wood, but also a tape of a Californian surfer named Eddie Vedder, who joined the fledgling band that later became known as Pearl Jam .

Chris Cornell, former roommate of Andrew Wood, a set of songs written in the form of tribute and recorded with Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron and musicians who would later form Pearl Jam. This project was titled Temple of the Dog and is a beautiful album that alternates ballads and Rock, featuring a spectacular duet with Eddie Vedder Cornell "Hunger Strike ." While in Seattle

remained a strong music scene and bands like appeared Love Battery (which would play Bruce Fairweather) with its excellent album Between the Eyes , released by Sub Pop, My Sister's Machine which contains the ex-Alice in Chains Nick Pollock and Hiro Yamamoto stops playing bass for Soundgarden reuniting with Robert Roth to form Truly , the labels are fixed Grunge.

Sony Music (which owns Columbia and Epic) was the seal that was spent recruiting more Seatlte bands and released in 1990, the debut of Alice in Chains where video of "Man in the Box" was one of Rock's most popular music videos of the year. The Screaming Trees are also hired in January 1991 and released their album Uncle Anesthesia to without much success.
Except
successful debut of Alice in Chains and contracts made by some bands, in early 1991 have not spent a great deal. However, that year would go on sale two albums that would change the face of 90 Rock. Read

Grunge History: Changing the Rock of the 90 (Part 2 of 3)

The Apogee Commercial Grunge

in 1990 and recommended by Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth, Nirvana Geffen hires. The band recorded with producer Butch Vig (future member of Garbage) and a budget of $ 125,000 in contrast to the 600 of his debut. Not happy with the sound of the disc, take care Andy Wallace (who later would work with Rage Against the Machine, Sonic Youth, Blind Melon and others) that remix album. The result was Nevermind.

While disc sales expectations did not exceed 500,000 units in the first six months sold 3 million driven single and video of the song that marked a before and after the Rock of the 90: "Smells Like Teen Spirit ." The song with a strong apathetic, sarcastic and disillusioned broke the mold of rock music that prevailed in the 80's.

Nirvana's success paved the way for some attention to other Seattle bands like Pearl Jam, who had edited the same 1991 Ten debut, which began to climb the charts months after its launch and would become like the other side of massive Grunge scene.

On January 11, 1992 Nevermind album becomes U.S. bestselling dethroning of Michael Jackson Dangerous . The singles and videos of Nevermind and Ten follow one after another, Soundgarden achieved commercial success with her album Badmotorfinger , "Jeremy " becomes one of the year's most popular videos on MTV and Alice in Chains released their second Dirt and dark disk . To this is added the release of the film by Cameron Crowe (Almost Famous, Vanilla Sky, Elizabethtown) called Singles, set in Seattle and is full of allusions to the city's music scene. In the film are playing live Alice in Chains and Soundgarden, who meet at the soundtrack with Pearl Jam, Mudhoney, The Lovemongers and Screaming Trees. Appear in supporting roles including Chris Cornell, Eddie Vedder, Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament.

At that time the Hair Metal is forgotten in the overnight. Bands like Warrant, Winger, Poison and Cinderella are displaced from popular preferences for alternative music. Even they are stigmatized and are frequent targets of ridicule.

Thus, 1992 marked the final emergence of grunge and alternative music allowing MTV, record companies and the public begin to pay attention and space to college rock bands of the 80 as Dinosaur Jr and Sonic Youth and Smashing Pumpkins emerging as alternative . The effect also allow a wider spread to British bands like Catherine Wheel and other exponents of Shoegazing . Mudhoney

time was a relative success in Europe and in 1992 received a more substantial budget to record their album Piece of Cake including single "Suck You Dry " and a cover of Elvis Costello " Pump it Up. "touches something also Screaming Trees have sold just over 300,000 copies of Sweet Oblivion in the U.S. thanks to the song" Nearly Lost You . "However, these successes are smaller and eventually only 4 groups Seattle managed a real commercial success and mainstream recognition: Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains and Soundgarden.

In this context, there are still interesting discs Seattle who did not receive attention as Dayglo Love Battery 1992, despite having released a single interesting as "Out of Focus ."

in 1993 goes on sale V / S of Pearl Jam debuted at No. 1 bestseller in several countries and popularize a number of bands under the umbrella of alternative music: Soul Asylum, Stone Temple Pilots , Blind Melon, Collective Soul, Candlebox and others who exploit the commercial grain influences Seattle and combined with other musical elements. Meanwhile

Nirvana released an album entitled far less friendly In Utero, but was rumored to be called I Hate Myself and I Want to Die (I hate myself and want to die) in a clear example of the boredom of Kurt Cobain with show business and demonstrating their self-destructive tendencies. Despite its dirty sound disc becomes a new best-selling but not match the figures of its predecessor. Centrifuges

Trends and Tragedies

In 1993 it was clear that the most popular bands of the Grunge had its own distinctive sounds and groups already bored of the common tags and hyper-marketing the "Seattle Sound." If Nirvana made its manifest anti with In Utero, Pearl Jam claims that will not record more music. However, the boom had not yet.

in January 1994 for the first time an EP (disc short-term) debuts at No. 1 best-seller in Billboard magazine. The question is EP Jar of Flies Alice in Chains possessed a sound much more relaxed and less dense than their long durations (in line with their previous EP, Sap ). That same year, released his album Soundgarden Superunknown popularized the songs "Spoonman", "Fell On Black Days "and" Black Hole Sun . "

Meanwhile, Pearl Jam released their third major album, Vitalogy and start a legal battle against the ticketing company Ticketmaster for concert Overcharge on tickets that keeps the band to shows low cost to their fans. That battle would keep the band of Eddie Vedder and company outside of the big stadiums and even reach a plea before the U.S. Congress. His last major appearance was at the MTV Awards in 1994 where he played with Neil Young's song "Rockin 'in the Free World."

Nirvana, meanwhile, recorded in November 1993 for submission to MTV Unplugged playing three covers of a band that influenced the eighties, Meat Puppets. Those songs were "Oh I ", "Lake of Fire " and "Plateau " to which were added several hits and other songs themselves as " Where Did You Sleep Last Night?" Which had been recorded in 1990 by Cobain and Novoselic for a solo debut of Mark Lanegan, Screaming Trees vocalist. It is rumored that the band split. Kurt Cobain declared at one point that he would do something like what The Beatles did disk Sgt Peppers Lonely Heart's Club Band that catalyzed a major progression for the music. No clutch, the pressure of stardom, Cobain's depression and heroin addiction leads him to the limit. Having had problems in the tours, continuing problems of ulcers and to remember the chords of the songs (which led to Pat Smear play guitar with the band in recent months) Nirvana playing live longer and after August 1 April Kurt Cobain's body is found in your home. He had committed suicide shot himself with a shotgun three days earlier.

Fans around the world make massive layoffs and the video for "All Apologies " in acoustic version with a stage full of candles is transformed into a hymn of farewell. Cobain's death marks the beginning of the term for Grunge.

Alice in Chains in 1995 after infighting manage to get a self-titled album in 1996 and performed an acoustic performance for MTV would print on disc, but the singer Layne Staley who struggles against his addiction to heroin seems more interested in a project together guitarist Mike McCready and drummer of the Screaming Trees, Mad Season entitled and Above disk. Pearl Jam is immersed in its battle against Ticketmaster and play as support band disk Mirror Ball Neil Young but not mentioned in the title because of problems with his record label.

Some symptoms that things were not before the Seattle bands for the two examples as the fourth album Love Battery Straight Freak Ticket , released by Polygram that goes unnoticed, and Truly debut LP , Fast Stories ... From Kid Coma , which despite being a musical jewel more complex than most of their more famous and have received excellent reviews from critics had bad luck that his Capitol passed through a crisis and the disc received any support or promotion after editing.

In 1996, after a separation comes a new work entitled the Screaming Trees Dust . Despite critical acclaim, the album fails to catapult to fame. That same year saw the light Soundgarden's last album, Down on the Upside and Pearl Jam released their album No Code no closer to his musical success or past business and it is clear that the boom of Grunge is gone.

Nevertheless, some bands influenced by past and classified as post-grunge achieved some successes. These include Creed, Staind or more of the acoustic Days Read

Grunge History: Vestiges, and Breakout Bands Featured Albums (Part 3 of 3)

Grunge Remains

Of the 4 major bands Pearl Jam only remains in effect until today thanks to a base of loyal fans and, although his later albums do not compare with his earlier work, maintain a good level, especially Yield and its self-titled album in 2006. The 2007 Eddie Vedder recorded a solo album titled Into the Wild .

Soundgarden dissolved in 1997 and Chris Cornell a successful solo career alternating with Audioslave where he recorded three long durations with the musicians from Rage Against the Machine. Cornell, additionally recorded two songs for movies, the beautiful " Sunshower" and a theme for the latest James Bond movie.

Alice in Chains stops playing live for years and recorded some tracks appearing on compilations, but their vocalist Layne Staley ends up losing the battle against heroin in 2002 to die of an overdose. The guitarist and songwriter Jerry Cantrell throws a pair of solo albums without much success recently with the rest of the survivors of the group announced a meeting with a new vocalist. Mudhoney

still playing to this day without getting very popular, making frequent tours opening for Pearl Jam. The Screaming Trees in turn end up alienating the Dust point was his last album and Mark Lanegan takes to continue his solo career with 6 LPs to date as well as collaborating with Isobel Campbell of Belle & Sebastian, in the latest album from the British The Soulsavers and be part of Queens of the Stone Age.

For ex-Nirvana the biggest surprise is for the race founder and leader Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters and contributor to the Queens of the Stone Age.

Many of the classic Seattle bands today are dissolved and little is known of its members as is the case with Love Battery and Skin Yard. Truly launches a second album called Feeling You Up! And then Robert Roth embarks on a solo career.

Other groups have never had a significant base of fans and achieved the dream of fame as Seaweed, Treepeople, Coffin Break or Gruntruck.

Collaborative Projects & Bands Parallel

Seattle Grunge was always characterized by being a scene of great closeness and interaction between musicians. The fact that many bands have emerged from common points have been rearranged bands consistently resulted in a Record series or parallel as collaborative projects.

In the aforementioned Temple of the Dog and Mad Season, you can add a long list. In the case of the members of Pearl Jam, Jeff Ament recorded with the band Three Fish some discs in parallel and Stone Gossard with vocalist Shawn Smith and former members of Satchel including Haggar Regan former drummer Malfunkshun, will promptly remove the fourth studio album from Brad, a band keeping the Rock has flirted with pop and funk. His most popular topics were "20th Century " and "The Day Brings ."

For Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron then be integrated Pearl Jam with bassist Ben Shepherd joined with John McBain of Monster Magnet and Brian Wood, brother of Mother Love Bone singer in the psychedelic project called Hater and then the two former Soundagrden be launched with a band of trends Conspiracy Wellwater similar call. In the case of Brian Wood would join his brother Kevin to form Fire Ants and years later Devilhead.

The Screaming Trees are perhaps the most prolific of the ramifications. A career of Mark Lanegan above are added Purple Outside, banda pseudonym of guitarist Gary Lee Conner and multiple discs Van Conner either as Solomon Grundy in 1990 or Gardener later. However, the really important are the 2 albums released with his new band Valis that rescue influences Led Zeppelin and an intensity akin to rock Stoner Rock that recalls the best days of Grunge.

Some occasional collaborations occur between members of Soundgarden and Pearl Jam tribute to Jimi Hendrix, Stone Free. Also the guitarist Kim Thayil has played as guest guitarist on songs Tuatara.

Merry Christmas 2007 Best of the Blues Sounds

is traditional alo that in order to become counts, and lists the most notable point of the year. As I could not stay down this trend, this is a summary and guide to the best of 2007 Sounds Blue:

ImageChef.com - Custom comment codes for MySpace, Hi5, Friendster and more

The best albums of 2007: according to the survey in this blog answered by 145 people, the best album of the year is Radiohead's In Rainbows, followed Neon Bible by Arcade Fire. View full results of the vote .

The most exciting of the year: video of Paul Potts singing for the first time in British reality show.

The Internet phenomenon: Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul , who with his libertarian message seemed to appear out of nowhere and raise a horde of supporters on the internet for months mantivieron it the most searched on Technorati and the web general.

The most viewed post: almost 1 in 7 visitors of this blog came looking for a list of Ballads of the 80 released a few months. Unthinkable.

Most commented: although this blog took off rapidly in its number of views taking averages over 230 visits a day for several consecutive weeks, comments the posts were not so common. The article further comments received was What makes you happy? with 8 comments.

exclusive mp3 The jewel in the year: the publication of unreleased album from Screaming Trees mp3 . Although there was a big fight with the new album Blind Melon and Spork EP Flake Music the original band members of The Shins, the prize goes to the Screaming Trees vocalist Mark Hand Lanegan.

Most Downloaded year: with 37 discharges the Unplugged in Sweden of Chris Cornell.

The most bizarre post: What to Do in Case of a Holocaust? all comments received virtual and around that bare apocalyptic cable. In any case, there were all kinds of curiosities posted that is worth reviewing. Most

idle 2007: compilation of 100 best albums in history through assigning weights to the lists of various magazines and websites.

the post more useful for bloggers: many came to this blog through the basic build tools and tricks of blogging .

The most disgusting of the year: no doubt 2Girls1 Cup.

The most informative : in the habit of making lists and post weird things, perhaps the most visited post of this nature was the list of games games to avoid boredom with friends.

The best song of 2007: surely this must be one of the most difficult choices. While "Heretics" by Andrew Bird, "Bodysnatches" Radiohead, "How Low" by José González and "Intervention" from the Arcade Fire were big issues, I'll stick with Okkervil River and its single "Our Life Is Not a Movie or Maybe ."

Video I Never Loved A Man the Way I Love You

The Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, made this live performance in 1967 for her song "I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You" which also gives the title to one of his best records. The recording shows the vocal power of Aretha in a beautiful song with a seductive rhythm.

For those who have only heard of Aretha Franlin, I call your attention to one of the great female voices of the twentieth century.

House of the Year Favorite Series

Dr House MD House or is a television series that have grabbed more attention in recent years. Until a few months ago barely knew existed, but it turns out since I saw for the first time I became a fan.

A vote on the VTR Blog named it the best series year, which is odd DO NOT leave because the signal is transmitted through the Universe, one of the less popular channels of cable. In addition, a Chilean blog series that is always among the 60 most visited of the country as ranked by Blogalaxia.

To add a little more praise, House MD was nominated for 2 Golden Globes: Best Drama Series and Best Actor in a Drama Series Hugh Laurie.

The series is based on the character of House is a physician with exceptional medical knowledge that you consult the most bizarre cases. He combines technical expertise with highly unethical to diagnose the ills that afflict their patients. House's character is obsessed with the truth and to reach the correct diagnosis. It matters little if you need to check the garbage of their patients, trespass on their homes, tell their patients or couples who have been deceived or take dangerous techniques of treatment.

In this context, dilemma is whether the end justifies the means and what the value of compassion and human empathy. Does someone you can tolerate all his eccentricities and lack of ethics because it is able to do things that others do not? In the series you end up validating virtually bizarre behavior in the House as they laugh with their outputs mother, hipersarcástico humor and his utter disregard for others' feelings.
