How Long Do Cigars Last
Last Tuesday, February 3, 2009, died at his home Italy's Max Neuhaus, distinguished figure of sound art and international contemporary art. Neuhaus, trained musician, percussionist recognized and later one of the most important figures in the creation of sound, died as a result of cancer leaving your place a vacuum ذ as those created with ز time pieces س ذ in the minds of us all for which his work has been a constant motivation.
Texas artist, born in 1939, as few could understand the possibilities of sound as material for artistic creation. Pioneer sound installations, his works, created specifically for locations in different cities and museums, playing with the viewer in a kind of involuntary participation. Many of his works, permanently installed, can be seen even today in various places in the world. In New York, the famous Times Square piece continue to issue, despite his absence, the constant hum that altered by the circumstances of the land is mixed with the frantic pace of the city. In Austria, T ime Piece Graz, continue marking the hours with a subtle beep that gradually increases in intensity until it disappeared suddenly, giving way to a latent silence can almost hear and see.
Max Neuhaus declined to be identified in most of his works. These were entered in the continuum of the city as one component. Without referring specifically either to the artistic or the sound, generated in the city a unique perception could be interpreted as a finding and a personal creation. In his works had no meaning but simply a stimulus. The impossibility of distinguishing in many cases the addition of surround sound, makes the city connect instantly with the situation thus created and the space involved.
paradoxical when Neuhaus argued that the works were not the sounds that he included in space, but what occurred when we heard, or, when they stopped to listen, as in the case of Graz The truth is that his deeds need a formal explanation, just experience it to realize that one of his greatest accomplishments was learning to connect, with great sensitivity, artistry and sound with the city and the bulk of its citizens.
conclude this review with the welcome Neuhaus chose for your website:
" Our perception of space depends on what we hear as we see "
